Açaí berries (pronounced ah-sai-ee) are so amazing for you! They contain heart healthy omega 3’s and are the perfect addition to any frozen smoothie bowl!
It can be hard to find a good frozen açaí pack to add to your smoothies. Trader Joe’s sells one that has pure açaí berries but if you don’t have a TJ’s nearby, you can purchase freeze-dried açaí powder online. I used Navitas Natural’s Freeze-Dried Açaí Powder for this recipe and it blends great with the frozen raspberries. Feel free to use whatever berries you prefer but make sure to use frozen so that the consistency is similar to that of an ice cream…scoop-able and creamy!
Since it’s the middle of summer here in New England, nothing is better than a healthy treat like a smoothie bowl. I love these for breakfast, lunch or even dessert! The best part, the only sugar from this recipe is in the berries. A lot of the smoothie or açaí bowls that you buy at the smoothie places contain too much sugar, usually sweetened with more than just berries (which tend to have less sugar then most other fruits). Added bonus, this one has cauliflower in it which makes it super rich in fiber and Vitamin C! I prepare the cauliflower ahead of time by cutting it up into florets and lightly steaming them until slightly tender. After they have cooled, I place them in freezer-safe bag and freeze for a couple hours or overnight until I am ready to make my smoothie.
- 1 tablespoon of freeze-dried açaí powder
- ¾ cup of frozen raspberries
- ¾ cup of lightly steamed and frozen cauliflower
- 1 heaping tablespoon of almond butter
- 1 scoop of hemp protein (or your favorite plant-based protein)
- 1 cup of unsweetened almond or coconut mylk
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- Blend together in a high speed blender until smooth. An ice cream-like texture should be achieved. If too liquid, add ice or more raspberries and blend. If too thick, add in water or more mylk and blend.
- Serve in a bowl with your favorite toppings. I used hemp seeds + cacao nibs + raspberries.
- Enjoy!
You can add your favorite toppings, but since I wanted to keep this one low in sugar, I just added in some cacao nibs, hemp seeds, and a few raspberries. Granola is always a good idea but again, tends to be high in sugar.
