To all my matcha lovers, this recipe is my go-to! To all you coffee lovers, you may want to make the switch to matcha and I’ll explain why.
What’s all the rave about Matcha? Matcha has about the same amount of caffeine as coffee but creates a more calming effect on the body and isn’t as harsh as coffee due to a natural substance it contains called l-theanine, which induces relaxation without drowsiness. It also has tons of antioxidants, more than a typical cup of regular steeped green tea. So if you are looking to nix the coffee, Matcha may be a great alternative!
Here is the scoop on some other ingredients I used in the recipe:
- Collagen Peptides*
- Brain Octane Oil*
- Spirulina*
Why I use Collagen Peptides: Collagen makes up to 90% of bone mass, and several studies indicate that consuming collagen can improve bone metabolism. Also, studies show that daily consumption of collagen significantly improves skin elasticity and moisture–which is crucial in the winter or for those of you who live in dry climates! Since our body stops producing collagen in our mid-20’s, consuming collagen can be vital to keeping our skin youthful and bones strong. There are many more health benefits of collagen powder beyond skin and bones, such as improved gut and joint health.
What the Heck is Brain Octane Oil? Brain Octane Oil is distilled from 100% pure coconut oil. It’s a great source of energy from fat, it helps your body burn fat, and supports cognitive performance. http://www.bulletproof.com/brain-octane-oil-16-oz
Health Benefits of Spirulina: Spirulina is a powerhouse. It’s made up of 60% protein and is an excellent source of vitamins A, K1, K2, B12 and iron, manganese and chromium. It also helps support your immune system and is great for detoxifying your body.
Recipe:
6 oz of heated water
6 oz of unsweetened coconut or almond milk
1 scoop of Further Food Collagen Protein Powder* or omit
1 teaspoon of high-quality Matcha Tea – I use Midori Spring Organic Ceremonial Matcha – Gold Class – Super Premium 1st Harvest Japanese Matcha Green Tea (30g)
2 teaspoons of Brain Octane Oil (optional)*
1/2 teaspoon of organic spirulina (optional)
1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
Add all ingredients except milk and water to a high speed blender. Heat the water and milk together over the stove or in the microwave to just below boiling point (about 2 mins in the microwave on high). Add the water and milk mixture to your blender and blend on a “stir” or low power setting, being careful of holding the top on as the liquid may come up (and its hot)!
Enjoy!
